Watchlist for September 21st: Gray Television, Inc. (NYSE:GTN) on short watch

Repros Therapeutics Inc. (Public, NASDAQ:RPRX) – I like this long on break of $1.50 or $1.46 or on red/green. True stinker of a company but that would be a huge break with no resistance until $2.20.

rprx

Gray Television, Inc. (NYSE:GTN) – After the last real news, earnings around August 7th, this stock was under $0.50. Now at $2.65, this is an easy short on green/red. Was nice fader on green/red after first spike at the end of August, from $0.95 to $0.75 in three straight red candle days.

gtn

Legend International Holdings, Inc. (Public, OTC:LGDI) – This spikes occasionally. If I remember correctly Tim Sykes and I shorted this last summer on a previous spike. It has some serious backers, but some highly sketchy aspects too. Previous spikes have been good shorts but so far it is not up enough for me to think it a good risk/reward.

lgdi

Genova Biotherapeutics, Inc. (Public, OTC:GVBP) – One of the most egregious pump & dumps of the year if not the decade, this failed to bounce Friday after two big down days and I will thus finally look to build a longer-term short position in this.

Disclosure: No positions. I have a disclosure policy.

  1. i have RPRX As well, looks very good for a break out.
GTN along with CBBO are on my short list, but CBBO is at some resistance and could break and run higher if the momos get behind it.
NCT held up strong Friday and could run more, if it starts to fade it would be a good short. If it were to spike at opening it would be a good short as well IMHO, no news that I can see.
DAC had it’s first down day and the volume faded, short list.
I could keep going because I have looked all weekend at stocks and charts.

    1. CBBO I like as a long better than a short. It is very low-float. and back in May it had a nice 2nd up day after a big move.

NCT I think I’ve traded that before and it was too choppy for my taste.

DAC interesting, gonna probably be under 500k vol tomorrow so I probably won’t play it. Nice chart though.

  2. Thanks.

What does a trade bust mean? Googling didn’t help a lot.

“I also went long 20,000 shares of GVBP at $0.26 this morning in pre-market trading but that trade was busted as a trade-through”.

  3. Other stocks that look interesting;
PSOF, shares traded Thur were just over 64k, it jumped to 850k Friday and had a nice pop. It could easily go higher Monday if momo buyers get behind it.
ONCY looks the same way, volume was low on Thur, higher on Friday woth a nice spike, it go higher with more voulme Monday.
NCT is similar but the volume has already seen some good days unlike the other two.

    1. PSOF I really take a look and see how tradeable those volume-spike charts like that are. I’ve never really looked into it, partly because I’ve never concentrated on buying.

  4. CUR, BCRX, AEZS, pre-market leaders.

CBBO looks to be breaking down already, if it does not show strength early I may go short this morning.

  5. Haha, I called DPTR correct, that’s the one where I said that the drilling of the 4 wells was hinging on the completion of their current Gray well completion. Well, it is flowing water only with very little gas, this thing is going down. It would be a good short right out of the gate this morning.

  6. Or better yet it should have some sort of spike after the majority of shorts cover, maybe buy into the spike and then ride it down. I don’t know if that’s a strategy though, just a good thought I guess.

    1. lulz … I’m so pissed at myself for missing GTN and NCT red/green. For both I had an order prepared and almost clicked and for both I held back. GVBP annoying too, shoulda shorted that last Friday.

  7. i set my alarm for 5am to short GVBP in premarket and alarm didn’t go off…..pissed would be an understatement

GTN was only looking to short so no biggie for me

    1. BTB — we should retrain ourselves to buy on strength any potential short with big-run chart. That’s what I’m trying to do.

GVBP I tried to get filled in pre-market but there was no way to get an execution at a decent price and then it just gapped down, and r/r at .37 I wasn’t feeling it.

  8. thx for the info on GVBP premarket….a bit of a relief to know that, i was traveling friday so no way i could have shorted it then…

my primary game is daytrading the S&P futures so I don’t have the attention at this point to do much more than scalp Tim’s trades…

  9. its a work in progress….i am taking it slow….2 months sutdying and backtesting….2months on sim…am now trading live with 2 contracts…even after about 2 weeks…looking for a career

  10. we can chat about my thoughts on penny stocks vs. futures some time. too long a conversation for the comments….

Tim short GVBP again. I am passing, no shares anyways….

  11. Michael do you mind elaborating as to what you mean about going short into strength, or is it exactly the way it sounds. Is that what we were talking about briefly last night.

  12. “BTB — we should retrain ourselves to buy on strength any potential short with big-run chart. That’s what I’m trying to do.”

Very sorry if I didn’t understand that, I guess that’s why I was asking. I understand now, you mean buying the breakout right, before going short. I messed that up.

    1. Ah, I meant simply that if a stock that is a potential short instead shows strength, it is often a good buy. Every ideal big-run chart pattern that makes for a nice short would have been a great buy earlier. GVBT is a recent example.

  13. A lot of chatter on CAPS lately about lgdi.ob reaper

apparently Some large Indian investors are exercising their options that are good till mid next year I believe.

also *supposedly* they will begin producing phosphate in Q4. Whether that actually happens remains to be seen.

The Soros family (george and his two sons) as you probably holds a 9ish% stake at a cost basis of ~1.80 per share, their lockup period expires in Oct-Nov I believe. Considering how far they are down My guess is they won’t dump right away unless it’s really bad.

Could be a good trade, I wouldn’t invest in it though

my guess is that it has more to run to the upside but hard to say.

    1. Yeah I did a bunch of research on this last year when it had a similar spike. I was very tentative in shorting it (even though the technicals screamed at me to short) because it is somewhat real. I hate buying OTC BB companies though, so I wouldn’t play this long.

agreed, I think it’s a high risk play either way. I’d avoid it.

especially when you consider you have GTN, GVBP and RPRX available to play. 🙂
